Boosterthon Update

Parents,
We’re so excited to be serving Statham Elementary with this year's Boosterthon Program!

The goal of the Boosterthon Fun Run is to raise funds while teaching our kids about the importance of Fitness, Leadership, and Character. Our goal is to raise funds for the media center and get to get new library books. We need your help to connect your child to sponsors!

Yesterday, your student came home with their very own Boosterthon Pledgebook. The Pledgebook has everything you need to get started.

The first thing you must do is register your student on funrun.com. To get started on funrun.com, please follow these simple steps:
1) Sign up as a parent on funrun.com by clicking the "Parent Sign Up" button.
**If you’ve signed up before and cannot remember your password, click the "Forgot Password?" button.
2) Once you are logged on, click the "Register a Participant” button on the Home Page, and enter your student’s registration code. Your student’s classroom registration code can be found below. Make sure to use the correct one.
3) Enter your student’s information and double-check the correct classroom assignment. Your student will receive a FREE PRIZE just for being registered.
Our original schedule was set to kick off today (Tuesday April 28th), but was changed due to testing and field day. If you attempted to register your students last night and were not able to log in, I apologize. Please try to re-enter in your pledges this evening.

Thank you again for supporting Statham Elementary!

End of Year details--LOTS of info.

Book Fair
The Book Fair is open from now until May 5th. Our class will preview the Book Fair on Friday from 11:10-11:30. Each student will have the opportunity to make a book wish list. The Book Fair is one of the best opportunities for our school library to receive funds. The company will give SES 30% of all you buy. Mrs. Hendrix uses this for books and other library needs.

Boosterthon
Prepare to be attacked with lots more information when the Boosterthon team arrives on Monday. We will have our Pep Rally @12:30, and you are welcome to attend! Each day the 3rd graders will gather in the auditorium for a huddle which is just a meeting to teach the character lesson for the day and pass out prizes for students who got pledges.

The Fun Run is the big event for Boosterthon. It will be on May 7th, and you are welcome to attend! Students will run laps around a small loop in the back playground grass while listening to fun music. Each pledge is sent to SES based on how many laps each student runs. I will have a sign-out sheet if you would like to check your student out early.

Field Day
Look for another post about this coming soon. The biggest thing is to have your student in tennis shoes, sneakers, kicks, trainers, plimsolls, gym shoes, or running shoes and also to send a change of clothes. PLEASE no high-tops or nice sneakers because the students will need to grip on wet grass and will get dirty! I will have a sign-out sheet if you would like to check your student out early.

Statham Stampede
This annual run takes place on May 8th @ 9:15. Teachers, students, parents, siblings, and pets are all invited and encouraged to participate! The route is protected by Statham police officers and Barrow County sheriffs. I've included a map below, but your student must have a signed permission slip to leave the school grounds.

Walking Field Trip
You should have received a permission form in this week's Monday folder. I didn't send home Monday folders until today because I wanted them to have something to put their progress reports in. [Sidenote: If your student isn't checking his/her cubby for graded papers, their Monday folder will be empty. I'm trying to remind them once and teach them to be responsible.]

Please return the permission slip as soon as possible, so I can plan accordingly. I will have a sign-out sheet if you would like to check your student out early.

Awards Ceremony
The 3rd grade awards will be in the auditorium from 9:00 -10:30. This will be a much shorter affair than last year. Each student will receive an award in our classroom after the ceremony. You are encouraged to stay for that and take pictures in the room. Students will not be allowed to be checked out during the awards ceremony out of respect for the other students who are receiving awards. I will have a sign-out sheet if you would like to check your student out from the room afterward.

Last Day Brunch Party
The students and I agreed that it would be fun to have a brunch party for our End-of-the-Year celebration. We'll do pancakes, breakfast casserole, fruit, etc. Please look for a sign-up sheet to come home in Monday folders in two weeks. Again, I will have a sign-out sheet if you would like to check your student out early. We will play games and just enjoy each other's company for the rest of the day.

Please email me with any questions...

Upcoming project

We will test tomorrow (Wednesday 4/1) on the mathematical content.
Thursday (4/2) and Friday (4/3) are make-up days.
Next Monday (4/6 which is also Camila and my birthday!) we will test on Science standards.
Next Tuesday (4/7) will cover Social Studies standards.

Therefore, I have designed a really fun project for the students to complete. It will include design, math, writing, etc. To present their information, I've asked that they all buy one piece of poster board of any color. They are less than a dollar at Dollar General. Please send one in with your child anytime. Thanks for your support.

Thursday-Valentine's Day cards

A Valentine's Day party will not be one of our classroom parties this year. We will have a time to pass out cards to classmates; however, this is completely optional. We have 22 students in our homeroom. If your child wants to bring cards for his/her classmates, they must bring a card for every student. This teaches respect and kindness.

Note from Dr. Huff

Comprehensive Needs Assessment Surveys
Hello everyone!
As we begin the planning process for the 2015-2016 school year, it is once again time for us to conduct our annual comprehensive needs assessment. The needs assessment begins with soliciting input from all stakeholders about the process of improving our schools.  We would like to receive input from all of our parents so please complete this survey by February 17th, 2015 at 5:00 pm.   Thanks for your support of Statham Elementary!

Parents *Link can also be found on the SES homepage

Swade Huff, Ed.D.
